Journey Philosophy Rebellion Sheikh Bedreddin
Journey Philosophy Rebellion Sheikh Bedreddin - Şahin Tümüklü
This book consists of the papers presented at the BEKSAV Sheikh Bedreddin Symposium in Istanbul on December 24, 2016. This study, consisting of seven articles in total, addressed Sheikh Bedreddin's life, philosophy, rebellion, the sources he was inspired by, and his influence on those who came after him. The articles in the book are essentially a contribution to the effort to understand and make sense of who Bedreddin was and where he stood historically, in the face of some incomplete or misleading texts that emerged due to the inadequacy of written sources during the period of Sheikh Bedreddin. When considered in terms of the historiography of the period, the Ottoman chroniclers, that is, the historians of the dominant understanding of the state, placed him wherever they wanted in the axis of state policy, but despite this, a state of confusion and plastering over him with mud is clearly seen. Some Ottoman historians see him as a rebel who rebelled against the state, a rebel against the state order and the form of property relations, and in their eyes, Bedreddin is an infidel. Some Ottoman historians, on the other hand, see Bedreddin as a Sunni sheikh and scholar and refer to the books he wrote in the fields of jurisprudence and theology, but they have tried to distort his position and struggle by using this reference. In recent historical research, new information has begun to be obtained through Genoese, Venetian and some hagiographical works. In this sense, various memoirs and records written by Genoese Dukas and Byzantine historians have begun to provide us with a clearer understanding of both the rebellion and the uprising, as well as Bedreddin's movement, philosophy and companions. In this book, both İlhami Yazgan and Hasan Ateş have presented all national and internationally published sources by presenting these sources in an orderly manner. Where Bedreddin's philosophy, understanding of nature and god, and the esoteric and heterodox understandings that form its roots come from, how they shaped Bedreddin and how they were embodied in his uprising
Esat Korkmaz, Mehmet Akkaya and Sinan Araman elaborate on this book. In fact, Bedreddin's philosophy is one of the stops of the dialectic in our country, from the Jamesian school in Christianity to Ibn Rushd in Islamic philosophy, from Epicurus to Spinoza and from there to Hegel and Marx. In this sense, this book is an essay that discusses this axis; it is a reference for those who will discuss it from now on, and it shows the direction. Perhaps, in terms of this book, it could also carry a discussion that details the Bedreddin uprising and reads the commune experiences through Börtlüce. In this sense, the article by Alp Altınörs, who emphasizes it as an experience, although its framework does not focus on commune experiences, and Emin Karaca, who narrates it through Nazım poems, is a starting point for the discussion. Our aim in this book is to be an important historical reference in the struggle of the oppressed and laborers and to create a data, a source in terms of telling us about the rebellion, uprising, organization and commune experiences in our geography. At this point, it is a responsibility for each of us to rewrite the history of the workers and the oppressed against the dominant understanding of history, to reveal its sources and to make it available to the widest segments. As a requirement of this responsibility, we hope that these efforts will continue and that we can convey the history of struggle, rebellion and commune to the future more powerfully and more firmly. We hope that this book will make a small contribution to this effort.
