Among the Ruins contains live testimonies from Armenian neighborhoods and villages that were destroyed in the massacre that took place in Adana in April 1909. Zabel Yesayan, who was part of the aid delegation sent to the region by the Istanbul Armenian Patriarchate after the massacres, conveys his impressions of the three months he spent in Adana, which was in ruins, and the suffering and destruction he witnessed in Among the Ruins. In this dark journey from Kozan to Hacin, from Dörtyol to Osmaniye, Yesayan becomes the eyes, ears and voice of thousands of orphans, widows and death row inmates in Adana.

Among the Ruins, one of the most striking examples of Armenian testimonial literature, includes an extensive foreword by academician Marc Nichanian, known for his works on Armenian literature, Zabel Yesayan's article on Adana orphanages, the report of Edirne deputy Hagop Babigyan, who was sent to the region by the parliament after the massacres, and about twenty photographs from the days of the massacre. It is presented to the attention of the readers in an enriched way.

"Neither these stories, nor the Armenians struggling in the ashes, nor the orphans who could not shake off the drunkenness of horror, nor the pain and confusion in their eyes, nor the widows writhing with the pain of their losses, nor the bloody painful wounds of those whose arms and legs were amputated... None of these are enough, nor the darkness and reality of what happened in those days of hell." "to fully grasp its depth."
