Two fishermen were leaning on the railing of the deck, stretching their backs like slugs, looking at the streets of the city of Hakodate embracing the sea. One of the fishermen threw the butt into the sea along with his phlegm, which he absorbed all the way to the bottom and almost burned his fingers. The rolled cigarette somersaulted like a clown, bounced off the side of the ship and fell into the water. An offensive smell of alcohol was coming from the man's entire body.
It had only been 8 years since we crossed the threshold of the 21st century when a miraculous development took place in Japan. In the first half of the last century, more concretely, a work of proletariat (working class) literature published in 1929 was "rediscovered". This work, which is almost 80 years old, had such great energy and vitality that it attracted tremendous attention, and its author, Kobayaşi Takici (1903-33), was considered an important part of the mosaic of 21st century Japanese literature.
