Yaşar Neither Lives nor Does Not Live
He first wrote "Aziz Nesin Yaşar Ne Yaşar Ne Yaşamaz" as a radio play. After the great success it gained, he turned it into a stage play. Upon insistence, he wrote the script; this time, as with most theater actors, he could not get the copyright from the film producer. His comic strip was published in a weekly newspaper. Then, he wrote the television script. As the demands of the readers and the pressure from the environment increased, Yaşar Yaşarmaz became the novel you are holding in your hands right now.
Meral Çelen, who wrote the introduction to the book, explains this great interest from Yaşar Yaşamaz's words:
“...At first I couldn't understand why my fame had spread so much and why you loved me so much, but now I know... Just as there is a little bit of Don Quixote in all of us, so there is also a little bit of Yaşar Yaşarmaz... If what happened to me were strangers to you, Would you love me, would you call me?
