On the Laws
Cicero (106 BC - 43 BC): Great Roman statesman, orator and thinker. He studied philosophy and law in his youth. He rose to the rank of consul with his mastery in the art of oratory. He managed to influence people of all ages with his speeches and philosophical and technical works that dealt with Rome in the triangle of individual, traditional social order and state. On the Laws, which is the continuation of his work called On the State, has similarities with Plato's work called The Laws. Using the dialogue technique, the work deals with the natural sources of law, how laws should be regulated, and how social harmony can be achieved between classes. The first book, which deals with the natural sources of law, is followed by views on the religious practices and laws of the period and the duties of the authorities.
