Mourning Diary

October 25, 1977: Roland Barthes loses his mother ("mommy"), with whom he lived for 62 years, who symbolized good-heartedness, nobility, innocence and softness for him. This is a big depression for him.

Age Diary: He has now reached a crossroads in his life. Immediately after his mother's death, he started keeping a diary that would last from October 26, 1977 to September 15, 1979.

During this period, Roland Barthes was preparing his lectures at the Collège de France (Preparation of the Novel, etc.), writing the text of the conference where he would talk about Proust, publishing articles in newspapers and magazines, writing his book on photography (The Luminous Room), drafting a novel (Vita Nova). He is making his plan. The main source of these important works, each of which clearly bears the effects of his mother's death, is the slips of the "Age Diary".
