As it is known, reconstructing the past is not easy, but if there is one thing we must definitely accept - I will make such a joke with your permission - it is that our ancestors who lived 3000 years ago or even more dreamed like us. As far as we know, all ancient peoples attached great importance to dreams and viewed them as practically useful. They derived signs for the future from dreams and made prophecies based on dreams. Just as today a military operation cannot be undertaken without the discoveries of reconnaissance planes, the Greeks and other Eastern peoples did not go on a campaign without consulting a dream interpreter from time to time. What is this thing we call dreams? It is difficult to answer this question in one sentence. On the other hand, we will not refrain from trying to determine the main features of the dream. I think what we need to do first is to capture the common feature of all dreams. If there is a common feature in all dreams, it is that we are asleep while dreaming. It is clear that dreams constitute spiritual life during sleep, and although this spiritual life contains some similarities with spiritual life in the waking state, it differs from it by great differences. This was Aristotle's definition of dreams in ancient times. While trying to say something, something else comes out of the mouth, while reading a text, the pronunciation of another word that is not there, unknowingly perceiving a word we hear as another word even though we do not have a hearing problem... On the one hand, one of Freud's Misconceptions that he defines as the conflict of two desires, one that hinders and the other that is blocked; On the other hand, dreams that cannot be fully analyzed and cannot be stopped from thinking about... On Delusions and Dreams consists of lectures selected from one of Freud's most important works, Introduction to Psychoanalysis.
