Brief History of the Weimar Republic
The Weimar Republic went down in history as the name of the German democratic experiment that lasted from the end of the First World War until Hitler came to power. By 1933 there was war, defeat, revolution, counter-revolution, hyperinflation, foreign occupation, unemployment and violence in the streets. However, during the same period, the Weimar experience also created tremendous examples in the fields of art, culture, literature, science and gender that would nourish the creativity and intellectual world of the next generations. For this reason, the Weimar Republic is one of the most important examples showing what the lack of republicans who protect the republic and individuals and institutions who believe in democracy costs.
"An armistice was signed at 5 in the morning on November 11, 1918. Six hours later, all guns fell silent and the war ended. While the armistice was signed, on the other hand, the revolution had already begun in Germany with the spark of a naval uprising in Kiel on November 3. The revolution quickly spread to Hamburg, Bremen and Berlin. With a separate uprising in Munich, the Bavarian republic was declared. On November 9, social democrat Friedrich Ebert became chancellor, a republic was declared in Berlin, the Kaiser was dethroned, and Bismarck was in power for almost half a century. "The Hohenzollern Empire that he created before came to an end and a new page opened in German history."
