Vulnus - Book Description on Fragility

The “ideal” is like a fancy armchair that no one can sit comfortably on. It is located at the center of the optical order as if it has always been there and will always be there. It offers a constancy; It promises comfort. Like the armchair on the cover, it appears as an object both everyday and ordinary; Moreover, it disturbs the comfort of the everyday with its excessive presence, imposes its own presence on the eye, and always remains at a symbolically inaccessible distance.
This study discusses “ideality” together with its opposite, “fragility”. In the stories told by participants from Ankara and Rome, these two concepts appear in different layers, taking on various sounds and images. In the background of these stories that try to express their fragility, we also hear the squeaky voice of the social that calls the subject to ideality.
Wound, cut, fracture, crack, hole... These are the first images of fragility that come to mind, trapped in a fixed moment of breaking. This text carries the hope that in a vision regime that recognizes vulnerability, vulnus , against the ideal, things that resist such a fixation, live and transform, can replace these images.
