Diary of the Year of the Plague
Daniel Defoe (1660-1731): He was born into a wealthy family in London. After a good academic education, he went into business. After a difficult and adventurous business life, he started writing with political satires. After a daring journalistic career and highly acclaimed didactic works, he wrote the novel Robinson Crusoe in 1719, which placed him in one of the cornerstones of world literature. The Diary of the Plague Year, written in 1722 and describing the plague epidemic that took place in London in 1665, is one of the most impressive literary works written about natural disasters. Defoe, who knew human nature very well and produced interesting works on many subjects with his powerful pen and simple style, is among the founders of the English novel.
