Wealth Tax and 'Turkification' Policies
Wealth Tax, which was implemented in our country during the Second World War, is not a simple tax law application. It is a part of the 'Turkification' policies implemented during the Single Party Period. 'Turkification' policies are an effort to strengthen the dominance of Turkish ethnic identity and the human element that embraces it in every dimension of social life, from the language spoken on the streets to the history taught in schools, from commercial life to who will work in state staff. In this book, Ayhan Aktar discusses in detail the 'Turkification' policies implemented during the Single Party Period and discusses their economic, social and cultural consequences. Issues such as the population exchange between Turkey and Greece after Lausanne, the disappearance of non-Muslims from economic life in Istanbul, the deportation of Jews from Thrace to Istanbul in 1934, and the dimensions of the wealth transfer that took place during the Wealth Tax are discussed in this book.
