Lily of the valley
Lily of the Valley did not receive the expected attention when it was first published (1836) and became one of Balzac's least-selling books. However, the author was of the opinion that he had created one of the most perfect and greatest novels on which he had worked the most. Time proved Balzac right: Lily of the Valley became one of the author's most loved and most read novels. This novel emerges at the crossroads of two great trends in nineteenth-century French literature: romanticism and realism, and takes its true place as one of the world's most famous love novels. While Balzac brings a deep reality to 'love', he also takes great care to reflect the social facts and conditions of his age. We present Lily of the Valley, one of the masterpieces of this great author, in Turkish by our esteemed author Tahsin Yücel.
