Although it is claimed that Diogenes Laertios was an Epicurean, the view that he was not affiliated with any school is more convincing. However, the general features of the work also bear traces of Aristotelians. It introduces the sages and philosophers, distinguishes between Ionian philosophers and Italian philosophers, introduces the founders of philosophy schools, their teachers, students, philosophical movements, and the way these movements developed. When he discusses a philosopher, he tells us about his ancestry, where he is from, his personality traits, his works in a certain order, his maturity period, his views, the way of death, the anecdotes told about him, his will and letters, if any, and also writes a poem about that philosopher himself. If there are other people with the same name, he adds them too.
