Places of Hope
Utopian movements have been struggling for a just society and a better life for hundreds of years. In this work, Harvey questions, from a historical and geographical perspective, the underlying reasons for the failure of these movements and the validity of the ideas that gave rise to utopias - in other words, why ideas remain utopian and why dreams do not come true. While presenting a striking description of the current urban environment, using the city of Baltimore in the USA as a model, he emphasizes the inevitability of resorting to utopian imagination against those who say "there is no alternative". After evaluating the pros and cons of spatial and temporal utopias, Harvey outlines a new utopian thought he calls "dialectical utopianism" and draws our attention to designs that will make it possible to live more egalitarian and at peace with nature. At the end of the book, you will find an extremely illuminating, very personal utopia about the author's own place of hope. David Harvey is known for his books The State of Postmodernity in Turkish and Social Justice and the City. At the philosophical center of his research is a fruitful perspective that aims to incorporate space and spatiality into Marxist theory and geography into historical materialism. It's the same in this book. Places of Hope is a book worth discussing and examining in every aspect.
