Üç Adım Sola-Toplu Şiirler 1
“I don't know if these are poems or not, and I don't want to know. All I want is for muteness to be solved and everyone to become a poet,” said Katerina Gogou, the anarchist poet of Exarchia. His lines, which he did not know whether they were poems or not, became slogans from the end of the 1970s and were engraved on the walls of the streets of Greece and in the minds of militant generations. Gogou's poems reflect the anger of the Greek people, who have been faced with oppression, exile, torture and conspiracies for decades. But this is not aimless anger, it "carries freedom, equality, solidarity, humanity and love of life on its banner."
Three Steps to the Left is Katerina Gogou's first poetry book. It was published in 1978.
Today, exactly forty years after its first publication and on the 25th anniversary of the poet's death, as we translate Three Steps to the Left into Turkish, we salute "those who were lost with the dream of revolution, in the midst of the endless loneliness of burned-down streets and paper barricades."
