The dynamism of the youth has always been considered the most important factor in becoming a political actor. He was considered one of the most popular political actors of the attempts to modernize Ottoman society in the 19th century and of the construction period of the Republic. Until 1980, youth, as a social actor, was the complement of a given situation within the framework of the responsibility assigned to it and its historical role defined for it, ranging from "rescue" to "protection". The "youth myth" that was created was used to describe the weaknesses of the new generation in the post-1980 period and how far they were from historical and social responsibility. In "The Myth of Youth" in Turkey, Demet Lüküslü engages in a comprehensive discussion, taking into account how young people who grew up in the shadow of the myths created, during the military coup and a new economic order, saw themselves, society and the world.
He is careful to discuss the post-1980 youth in Turkey without creating a new myth or belittling it.
