Turkish Hearths

In this work, which examines in detail the period from the establishment of the Turkish Hearths in 1912 to 1931, the year when they were closed, Füsun Üstel discusses the understanding of Turkism that dominated the Turkish Hearths in the first period, hars nationalism and the Turanism policy developed around the Ocaks, and the Turks who were reorganized during the Republic period. It tells the story of the nationalism advocated by the Ocakları taking shape once again, this time in line with the ideology of the newly established state. In the book, how the Turkish Hearths integrated with the party and the state during the Republican period, the theses that they should exist only as "representatives" of the elements with different languages and cultures living in Turkey in accordance with the ideological purposes of the state, the important responsibility of the Ocaks in the policies carried out against "reactionism". The functions and, as a result of these, how Ocaklar began to be seen as branches of the People's Party in the cultural field are examined. Füsun Üstel, who details how the party's ideology was shaped by the Community Centers and the History Thesis and Sun-Language Theory in the period leading up to the closure, examines all kinds of documents, from regulations to congress declarations.
