Trabzonlu Delikanlı
Yaşar Miraç (1953) Yaşar Miraç, whose first poems were published in local newspapers in Trabzon at the end of the 1960s, became the focus of great interest in the poetry world with his book, The Young Man from Trabzon, which reached readers in 1979. Hailed by some critics as the pioneer book of New Folk Poetry, The Young Man from Trabzon won the 1980 Turkish Language Association Poetry Award, one of the leading awards of the period. Nearly forty years have passed and this masterpiece of the poet's "dark blue country" has been recorded as one of the most important books in our Turkish poetry library. Today, The Young Man from Trabzon still stands in a very important place, not only as a shining memory of the golden age when poetry books reached tens of thousands of readers, but also with the stylistic features and exceptional lyricism he brought to poetry. The Young Man from Trabzon can be read as an imaginary fresco that miraculously brings together the benevolent, solidarity-oriented and sharing elements of the cultural fabric that today's poetry readers long for, that connected this society until recent years and that is almost lost today. Unfortunately, it is also a "dark blue" elegy to the love, brotherhood, friendship and comradeship from which we are moving further and further away. We are starting to publish the "signature books" of Turkish poetry with The Young Man from Trabzon.
