JJ Rousseau's work, Social Contract, which is famous for its social contract doctrine that forms the basis of the modern understanding of democracy, is also the source of inspiration for the French Revolution.
According to this work, which advocates an order in which all governments are established in accordance with the approval of the governed, "The basis of society is a contract signed by individuals surrendering all of their own demands to the will of the whole in return for protection."
In this work, the author followed the call of the Revolution, wanted a republic with the right to general election, and stood for the citizens' rights to equality, freedom and fraternity.
