Bottom of the Pot
"We were almost children when we were taken inside. Many of those inside grew up and matured while looking at the walls. As the walls rotted, we matured. Then the walls aged and began to be plastered, and we began to dye our gray hair and deny the whiteness. If you come and see, most of us are still living the childish times we left. When we went inside, our siblings and nephews who were in swaddling clothes were now grown men. We were just watching these events from the small window of the dungeon. Every time they came, our astonishment was the same; we, who could not see the speed of time, said, 'When did you grow up so much?' This creates an impossible feeling of injustice in people..."
Gülazer Akın, who has completed her 18th year in the dungeon, wrote in one of her letters. When I read the letter, I said that only a writer or poet could describe this sad life story with such distilled words. And soon we received a novel file of Akın. In those pale cells, in the dungeon where even colored pencils were banned, the writer turned his blood into ink, found non-existent colors, felt unheard sounds and as a result came out with a powerful novel. "The Bottom of the Pot", which begins with the note "To the women of my country who have to endure", is a novel that will leave the reader breathless. This novel should be read to discover Gülazer's language and "Women of the Other Geography"..."
