Laozi: Although there are various legends about his life, there is no definitive information. His name means both "old master" and "old boy" in Chinese. He is considered the author of Tao Te Ching (Dao De Jing), which is considered the most important text of Taoism. Tao Te Ching is one of the oldest and most famous examples of classical Chinese literature. The text has inspired many artists, thinkers and politicians throughout the centuries and has sparked various intellectual debates. Compared to other texts of its period, the most distinctive feature of the text is that it does not put people at the center. Unlike other thought movements of its period, Tao Te Ching characterizes nature not as a set of forces that are sensitive to human morality and serve humans, but as an impartial source of power that treats everything equally, including humans. According to the Tao Te Ching, everything between the earth and the sky is subject to the same laws. The reason why the Tao Te Ching, which has been interpreted in different ways according to political climates in different periods, is read even after centuries, is that the subjects it touches on will always remain valid.
