God-Death and Time
God-Death and Time Book Description
This book, which includes the texts of two lectures given by Emmanuel Levinas, one of the groundbreaking names of philosophy, in his last academic year at the Sorbonne, is shaped around the concepts of "God", "death" and "time". In his lectures, Levinas treats these topics as a play about the alterity in which human beings experience humanity.
While dealing with the relationship between the concepts in question, Levinas develops his thoughts through an extensive dialogue with both his contemporaries such as Heidegger and Bloch, and philosophers such as Aristotle, Hegel and Kant; Thus, he clarifies the basic concepts of his philosophy: responsibility, others, patience, word, transcendence and testimony, both in terms of their relationships with each other and their place in the history of philosophy. While closely examining these three concepts that form the basis of his work, he also sheds light on many accompanying issues.
