Sri Lanka'da Barış Süreci Nasıl Gelişti, Neden Yürütülemedi?
How Did the Peace Process Develop in Sri Lanka, Why Couldn't It Be Implemented? Book Description
Sri Lanka was forced to solve the Tamil problem in the midst of foreign intervention and rivalries, and during a civil war in which all these were integrated with Sinhalese-Buddhist reflexes at home. As a result of the globalization process, in a process where imperialist domination completely took control of the policies of colonial countries and began to manage them from within, the sharpening limits of competition were crystallized in the Sri Lankan example. The vortex that an island with a population of 20 million has been thrown into, under the shadow of strategic calculations and within the framework of the liberal peace project that bears its traces, with the visible and invisible interventions of the main (USA-England-Japan) and auxiliary actors (Israel-Pakistan) of international competition in the shadow of two huge neighboring powers such as China and India. led to serious consequences. In the sovereignty struggles of the powers that determine the international strategy, this island country did not have a function beyond a simple figure position. In this sense, imperialist powers imposed their own international interests and the norms and policies expressed by these interests on Sri Lanka. Norway's "mediator" role, in addition to the imperialist camp's efforts to impose "neo-liberal peace norms" that do not represent the essence of the problems and do not go beyond the limits of British-style colonial democracy, is a source of xenophobia produced by the Sinhalese-Buddhist chauvinist and reactionary structure in Sri Lanka. and anti-peace sentiment advanced headlong. With an approach similar to that used by similar fragile colonial state structures in similar events, the Sri Lankan state followed the policy of gathering power behind itself as a side of the contradictions between international powers in solving the ethnic Tamil problem and democracy problems in general. By accumulating power through this means, he tried to intervene in the civil war process. He managed to convince the Sinhalese-Buddhist social segments of mass murder policies to the point of "whatever happens". It ended the war at the end of a process of open and widespread massacre (about forty thousand people were killed in the last month) in which serious war crimes were committed in front of the eyes of the international "democratic public opinion". However, as Sri Lanka matured the conditions for military intervention and winning the struggle by accumulating power with external support and projects, it became weaker as a state, more fragile, and became a more socially and politically problematic country that was more dependent on the same external forces.
