Understanding Spinoza

Spinoza, one of the leading thinkers of 17th century philosophy, began to express his ideas that would later cause him to be excluded from the community, in the atmosphere of prosperity and freedom in Amsterdam, which was experiencing its Golden Century against the troubles experienced by the Jews in Christian Europe of the period. He develops his thoughts by reading Descartes and determines his own position with the texts he writes in response to them, creating a system that eliminates superstitions and illusions.
Understanding Spinoza deals with issues such as the structures of the infinite and the tension of experience, while explaining the basic concepts of Spinoza ethics such as the completeness of reality and the causality of substance. By making use of these concepts, he discusses universal concepts such as the individual, natural law, social contract, political power, common right, and rational desire.
