The novels of Zabel Yesayan, one of the important representatives of Western Armenian literature, Proper People, published in Istanbul in 1907, and Obedients and Rebels, serialized in Egypt in 1906, were collected in a single volume under the label Aras. Yesayan tells the obscure story of a family from Üsküdar, descended from Amira, through Hagop Mahdesyan, the orphaned son of the family, and the love he experienced, and takes a picture of the social situation through this family, which changes its identity and tries to keep up with new times. Obedients and Rebels, published for the first time in book form, is an unfinished novel of the author. II. Describing the people of Istanbul who tried to live under difficulties during the tyranny of Abdulhamid, Yesayan also focuses on the tensions between the revolutionary committees and the wealthy families of the period.
