Measuring Poetry with Poetry, Essays on Poetry
Measuring Poetry with Poetry brings together for the first time all the writings, interviews and inquiry responses of Edip Cansever (1928-1986), one of the most original and productive poets of our modern poetry. There are many clues in Cansever's writings that determine his poetics, reveal his perspective on life and poetry, and help us understand his poetry. For example, in 'Dividing the Poem', which is one of his most important writings as it shows why he preferred the 'dramatic monologue' type, which is rare in Turkish poetry, Cansever emphasizes that we always live by adapting to someone or something, and as a result, we lose our personality. According to him, the proper representation of the individual in poetry, who is confused between resisting and adapting to the environment and is divided into various roles, is possible by dividing the poem into narrators, that is, through a dramatic poem. The reader can also see Cansever in articles such as 'Poetry of Thought', 'Abstract Concrete', 'Measuring Poetry with Poem', 'From Monophonic Poem to Polyphonic Poem' and 'Notes on Tragedy', as well as in interviews where appropriate questions are asked and in the letters he wrote to Erdal Öz. He will encounter many doors opening to the intellectual foundations of his poetry.
