The Kurdish Question and the Kemalist Movement from Sèvres to Lausanne

The army, which provided political and military leadership during the transition from Sèvres to Lausanne, in other words, during the establishment of the Republic, continues its function of supervising the state and society from top to bottom today. Kemalism, which has no other argument than the principles of Turkish nationalism and secularism, is now trying to maintain its existence with the protection and protection of the army.

The current state of military, state and political relations is the biggest obstacle to the socialization of politics and the politicization of society in Turkey. In order to better understand these historical facts that we have summarized, we went back to the beginning and re-examined the political and historical conditions that formed the Republic of Turkey. In this context, we discussed the years 1918-1924, which are a turning point in Turkish history. This period is the founding process of the Republic of Turkey, which replaced the Ottoman Empire and whose borders were determined by the Armistice of Mudros. In this process, the nations that formed the multinational Ottoman Empire, that is, Kurds, Armenians, Greeks, Arabs, etc. “bad luck” has also been determined.
