In this book of Sâdik Hidâyet, the author's works in different genres come together. These texts, which we have collected under the title "Selections", were written on different dates and in different countries. In addition to Sâdik Hidâyet's literary texts full of humor and gloom, the book also includes a long essay: "Human and Animal." In this essay, the author's literary mastery makes itself felt. Deep observations about the ontological relations between humans and animals are presented in a delicious language. Similarly, the theater text called "The Legend of Creation" included in the book is among Sâdik Hidâyet's striking productions. In this play, fundamental questions such as theological narratives about the creation of man and the universe, the purpose of creation, and the meaning of life are fleshed out with the opportunities provided by the theater text and accompanied by a kind of black humor. Long stories are noteworthy in terms of reflecting the author's early production style and providing some signs about Sâdik Hidayet in his maturity period.
