Savaş Sanatı Tarihi
“War is the continuation of politics by other means.” John Keegan begins by opposing Clausewitz's famous thesis. He argues that if Ottoman and Japanese military institutions and Zulu and Polynesian war cultures are examined, it will be understood that this generalization is not correct. According to Keegan, this thesis considers war inevitable and is a reflection of the political style of Western states. While "primitive" societies try to avoid war as much as possible, civilization and culture have made people prone to war. If we want to end wars, we must learn some lessons from the tendency of Eastern societies and "primitive" societies to limit diplomacy, compromise and ritualize war. If this is achieved, perhaps war can be placed alongside old "solutions" such as human sacrifice, infanticide, slavery and duel, which are exhibited today as examples in the windows of the Museum of Humanity.
“Perhaps the most striking examination of war ever written.”
