Sarrasine - Hardcover Book
Honoré de Balzac (1799-1850): The great name of 19th century French literature. He started his literary career by writing plays. However, as a result of the criticism he received, he turned to novels. He completed 85 novels in twenty years, leaving behind 50 drafts of novels when he died. In 1830, he collected his fictional works under the title The Human Comedy, referring to Dante's Divine Comedy. He created more than 2000 characters, some of which became literary archetypes over time, and he handled all of his characters with an analytical approach free of prejudice, without isolating them from their social classes.
Sarrasine, a short novel, is included in the Scenes from Parisian Life part of the Human Comedy. The author's equal distance from all opposing human situations and characters in the work and his use of different narrative techniques have made Sarrasine one of the cornerstones of French realism. Sarrasine, which was analyzed by the famous semiotician Roland Barthes in his book S/Z, is one of the peaks of Balzac's creativity.
