Art and Desire

Art and Desire is the book form of the seminar series given by Ulus Baker, who developed a new social science proposal with criticism of social sciences, at METU Audio-Visual Systems Research and Production Center in 1998. Ulus Baker discusses the basic modern subjectification processes, starting from the 17th century and continuing with Kant, under the guidance of Deleuze. He looks at the philosophies of Spinoza, Descartes, Leibniz and Kant, always considering their connection with art, to see if an aesthetic can be derived from them. Then, he discusses the transformations in painting that began at the end of the 19th century; It leans towards cinema in terms of image production; It focuses on cinema's ways of producing meaning. A discovery tour full of inspiring examples awaits us in the worlds of painting and film, with the concept of affect covering the Art and Desire seminar from beginning to end. As you know, ideas come out of people's hands very easily, they are objects open to use, and above all, they are free. A point of view cannot be created with the idea that is sold. We all know that ideas are marketed. Nowadays, advertisers create 'concepts', as Deleuze said. How do we take this away from them, that's the question. How does an artist prevent his work of art from being an advertisement? Or how will the political spheres be rescued from some ethical and political debates carried out at the newspaper column level and how will they be reconstructed?
