Safveti Ziya's first novel, Salon Corners, was serialized in Servet-i Fünun magazine in 1898 and was subjected to censorship. Author, II. After the declaration of the Constitutional Monarchy, he added the sections removed by the censorship and published his novel in its original form as a book in 1912. Salon Corners, which also has autobiographical features, is an important work in terms of reflecting the Westernization in daily life at the beginning of the century. As Tahir Alangu describes it, "In terms of depicting the life of a Turk around foreign families in Turkey, he successfully completes a part that all the novelists of that period left missing."

Safveti Ziya (1875-1929) Servet-i He is one of the writers of novels, short stories and plays affiliated with the Fünun literary community. He is the grandson of Musa Safveti Pasha, one of the ministers of finance and foundations of the Tanzimat period, and the son of Mines Director Ahmet Ziya Bey. His grandfather and his grandfather's father, Crimean Ebubekir Rıfat Efendi, were poets. Safveti Ziya was born in Istanbul. He graduated from Mekteb-i Sultani in 1892. He started his official career as a clerk at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and was promoted to the general directorate of ceremonies during the Republic period. He was also a member of the State Council for a while. He died of heart failure at a ball given at the Yacht Club in Büyükada in 1929. Safveti Ziya, who started his literary career by writing stories in Servet-i Fünun magazine, had his first novel, Salon Corners, serialized in this magazine in 1898. In the same years, his novel Star Bugs started to be serialized in the Resimli Kitap magazine, but it was left unfinished. He compiled the stories he wrote during the Servet-i Fünun period into books called Bir Coincidence, Bir Safha-i Kalp, Ladies' Letters and Women's Spirit. He collected the stories he wrote after this in the book titled Erased Faces Emerging Faces. His play called Haralambos Cankiyadis, which was about the entertainment world in Beyoğlu in the 1890s, was appreciated in its time and was found successful in terms of theater technique. The last books of Safveti Ziya, who also published a daily newspaper under the name of Ziya in 1911, Adab-ı Muaşeret Hasbihalleri and How to Dress, can be considered as an extension of his duty in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as well as an expression of his lifestyle reflected in his literary works. We will continue to include the author's selected works in our Turkish Literature Classics series.
