Zaman's master storyteller...

"..The six stories in Saatler were written by Aksal I took it from Soda Tree and Other Stories, which are based on the "definitive" forms written or renewed by . They were "new" stories because he wrote them; it was not difficult to choose them.

For the sixth story, I first thought of Aksal's oldest known story, "Neighborhood Coffee". Not only was it not accepted, but it was not included in Soda Tree / Wounded Animal, which was published by Aksal by revising these two books and adding new stories, and therefore it was included in Arif Yılmaz's critical edition in its original form. Compared to other stories, it was in the language and style of its author in his 45 years of storytelling. It would be an ideal example to watch what has changed and what has remained the same.

But then, including a story that the author (regardless of the reason) did not include in his latest book or perhaps could not include in such a compilation with a specific target audience and a limited number of pages. I couldn't see the authority in myself. As a result, I preferred "Hours", a story in which Aksal deals with "time", which is his main theme in all his writings (although not in as philosophical and abstract planes and contexts as in his poems). I hope that the choices I have made are appropriate to direct our young readers to read all of Sabahattin Kudret Aksal's stories, plays and ("chillingly simple" poems, as Enis Batur aptly put it)."
