Prelüd - Bir Şairin Zihinsel Gelişimi
William Wordsworth is one of the most important poets of the Romanticism movement, which started in the late 18th century and extended to the 19th century. Although he produced his most important works before the age of forty, he continued to write until his last years and died in 1850 as the royal poet. Prelude holds a special place among his works with its unique features.
In the atmosphere of intense pessimism created by the war with France in 1789 and the disappointing social reform plans, Wordsworth set out to write a long-term philosophical text that would teach people the ways to regain hope and find peace. The name of his book is The Hermit; or Thoughts on Man, Nature and Human Life. However, after a few hundred lines, he decides to look within himself and examine the power that nature and education have given him. It is from this introspection that Prelude is born. As its name suggests, this text was not planned as an independent work, but as a preface for the Hermit, but in 1805, a text that was too long for a preface appeared, exceeding approximately eight thousand lines.
