Aristophanes (450 BC?-388 BC?): There is not much accurate information about his life. Of the approximately forty plays he wrote, only eleven have survived to the present day. Famous for his quick and sharp tongue, Aristophanes was a great poet who combined all the subtleties of the art of comedy with the testimony of his age.

He is a theater master. Ploutos is the last work of Aristophanes that has survived to the present day and in which he was personally tutored. Aristophanes, who usually ridicules the problems of his city Athens in his works, moves away from this style in Ploutos and treats the tension between rich and poor from a much more universal perspective. Despite his advanced age, the poet does not hesitate to renew his art in line with social changes. He also pioneers a brand new understanding of comedy with the staging techniques and language choices he uses in his last two plays, Ploutos and Kadınmebuslar. Ploutos, which is an example and a harbinger of the transition from Old Comedy to New Comedy with Women's Mebuslar, is translated into Turkish from its Ancient Greek original for the first time.
