After a century full of violence, wars and terror, the ideal of passive resistance has aroused a strong curiosity in people's consciousness and conscience. So, what were the first trends and movements that mobilized this ideal? What difficulties did these movements face in a long spiral of war, revolution and violence? This book examines the methods of passive resistance against slavery that developed in the early years of the 19th century, especially in the USA.
