Parma Monastery
Stendhal [Marie-Henri Beyle] (1783-1842): He entered the army as a lieutenant at a young age and participated in Napoleon's campaigns in Italy and Russia. He served in various military positions in Germany, Austria and Russia. He was involved in trade in Marseille for a while and served as consul in Trieste for a while. Considered one of the most important representatives of the realism movement in French literature, Stendhal's novel The Monastery of Parma draws a magnificent portrait of the Italian spirit with its aristocracy, palaces and passions. It was accepted as a masterpiece when it was published in 1839, and was praised by many novelists throughout the history of literature, especially Balzac.
