I can write very well in hotel rooms, but in that abstract, anonymous space called a hotel room, I find myself in front of white paper, with nowhere to escape. Or perhaps this was an ideal condition that prevailed when I was younger, where the world would be right there, just beyond the door, teeming with signs, accompanying me everywhere, with a presence so intense that I had only to step away to write about it.”
