The great master of socialist realism, Maxim Gorky, was born on March 28, 1868 in Nijini; Novgorod. After losing his father and mother at a young age, he worked in various jobs. He published his first story, "Makara Cudra", in 1982. Afterwards, he started writing continuously. He died in Moscow on June 18, 1936. The novel Freedom tells about a Russian town after the 1905 Revolution. Gorky, as in his other works, is a revolutionary in "Freedom". He benefits from his relationship with the working class movement and the impressions he gained from the struggle of the working class.
