Those Who Live by Games
Constantly changing political and social values, goals and criteria since the Tanzimat period have dragged Turkish intellectuals into a chronic depression. Oguz Atay's theater play is a dark comedy about our literate writer who is struggling with existential problems and trying to 'hold on' but not quite succeeding. Atay created a gripping play out of the fear of being ridiculous and incompetence, which is the natural result of a life spent in inertia. He wrote A Scientist's Novel. The play called 'Those Who Live with Plays' was staged at the State Theatre. Atay passed away on December 13, 1977, before he could write his great project, 'The Spirit of Turkey'.
