Rights of Others - Aliens, Locals, Citizens
Citizenship is defined as requiring loyalty to a certain land or existence on this land by blood ties. However, those who come to the lands we live on as foreigners, immigrants and refugees; There are stateless people and those deprived of citizenship. There are "authorities" that define people's citizenship within certain limits, determine the conditions required by these limits, and determine the law depending on these conditions. In The Rights of Others, Seyla Benhabib discusses being a native, being homeless, citizenship, being a foreigner or an immigrant, based on the concept of hospitality. It deals with the discoveries of the post-imperial period, the people who were condemned to exist within borders, and how possible these existing nation-state frameworks are for a new way of life for the future. In this context, he discusses with examples how to deal with potential problems without making any changes or stretching himself, the tension between "the place where you were born and the place where you grew up", how the identity of different faith communities can collide with their citizenship identity in a country where they are considered foreign, and how identities re-establish themselves in this process. With this discussion extending from Kant to the EU, he deals with an issue whose content must be constantly questioned.
