The Madman in the Forest

The sixth book in the series consisting of Simenon's novels translated by the great masters of Turkish literature is The Deli in the Forest, written in 1932 under the name Le Fou de Bergerac and translated into Turkish by Erhan Bener in 1963. The Madman in the Forest, a Commissar Maigret novel, takes place in the countryside. While going to Bergerac to see his friend, Maigret jumps off the train after a passenger he sees as suspicious for some reason. The commissioner, who was shot by the suspect during the chase, carries out the investigation throughout the novel from his sick bed in the hotel in the center of the town, through reasoning and some traps he sets. Erhan Bener, who met Simenon in Brussels and is an avid Simenon reader, frequently includes detective elements and psychological analyzes in his works, which adds a different meaning to the collaboration of these two writers.
