Function of Orgasm

In The Function of Orgasm, Wilhelm Reich saw the decisive importance of sexual economy for individuals and society more radically than any criticism of sexuality made before and after him. Going further than Freud, who argued that drive stimulation is essential for cultural development, Reich proves that every neurosis is the result of accumulated sexual energy and is constantly reproduced by the authoritarian family structure and authoritarian social structure. However, according to Reich, having the power to orgasm means being socially powerful; Only this power guarantees a decent life and productive work. Reich analyzes the biological processes in orgasm and develops vegetotherapy based on these; The goal of this therapy is to dissolve muscular and character "armor" and release repressed genital sexuality.

This edition of The Function of Orgasm is faithful to the book of the same name published in 1927 in its description of orgasm, but in other respects it is a new version of the one published in America in 1942. In the last chapter, Reich bases sexuality on the biophysical power of orgone energy, which he researched in the last years of his life.
