Ölü Canlar-Bez Ciltli
Chichikov, who makes an incredible plan to become rich, meets with landowners who have to pay taxes on the number of peasants they own. Thanks to an important legal loophole in Russia, he wants to buy the peasants who only appear to be alive on paper in official records. The bargains made over dead souls become even more striking with caricatured characters, and a single question arises in the reader's mind: Who owns someone who is no longer alive?
We present this work, written by Gogol inspired by the Divine Comedy upon Pushkin's suggestion, and in which it is shown that it is easy and customary to go down dark paths in pursuit of the dream of becoming rich, with Uğur Büke's careful translation.
