Oğlumuz-Yarın Diye Bir Şey Yoktur-Öyküler 1
Tarık Buğra is not only one of the leading writers of our political novel tradition, which deals with the War of Independence and the problematic of the establishment of the Republic of Turkey, along with Yakup Kadri Karaosmanoğlu and Kemal Tahir, but also draws attention with his storytelling. Buğra, who often narrates the experiences of "ordinary" people or the things they are likely to experience with a unique sensibility in his stories, sometimes makes us feel the sadness of an illness, sometimes the passion of love, and sometimes the joy of a conversation as if we were experiencing it ourselves. As in his novels, in his stories he does not neglect being in the countryside, being together with countryside people, in short, telling the “spirit of the countryside.”
This book, which brings together the first part of the stories written by Tarık Buğra, brings together readers who previously knew Buğra only from his novels not with “a novelist who also wrote stories” but with a storyteller in his own right with every sentence, while at the same time providing an opportunity for readers who will encounter Buğra’s texts for the first time to open the great “entrance door” to Tarık Buğra literature. “We can think of Buğra as developing his storytelling along two distinct lines, responding to the literary debates of the period not with theory but with practice. One line of Buğra’s storytelling is the ‘time’ line where he meets Proust and Tanpınar. This is of course also the line of modernist writing after Bergson.
(...) The second line of Buğra’s storytelling that I mentioned at the beginning is humanism. Just as he is in the same place as Tanpınar in his stories about time, he is also in the line of Sait Faik in his humane and humanistic stories.”
