Russian Jewish writer Izak Emmanuelovich Babel, one of the great masters of the short story, was arrested by the Soviet secret police on May 15, 1939, and most of his writings were destroyed. Babel's name, until that day known as one of the most respected writers of the Soviet Union, was deleted from literary encyclopedias and dictionaries, his name was not mentioned until his reputation was restored in 1954, after Stalin's death.
Can Yayınları, all of Babel's works He will publish his stories in two volumes. The first volume you have consists of three parts: "Early Period Stories", "Odessa Stories" and "Stories 1925-1938". Babel's stories reveal all the colors of Russian social life; In addition to touching on some taboo topics such as marrying a Christian woman, prostitution, teenage pregnancy and abortion, the author's effort to use language in a new and unusual way immediately attracts attention. These stories, which tell about the daily lives of smugglers, loan sharks, rabbis, car drivers and Jewish gangsters living in Moldavanka, the Jewish ghetto of Odessa, resemble a very colorful baroque painting full of life and humor.
