Netochka Nezvanova
Netochka Nezvanova is Dostoyevsky's first unfinished attempt at a major novel. Shortly after appearing on the literary scene, young Dostoyevsky wrote to his brother in a letter dated 1846 stating that he wanted to write "a great novel", and with this intention he began to work on Netochka Nezvanova. The novel was left unfinished when she was arrested and sent to Siberia in 1849, and Dostoyevsky never returned to this novel again. Netochka Nezvanova begins with the sad childhood story of Netochka, who lives in a poor house with her suffering mother and her father, an unsuccessful musician, and continues with the narratives of her early youth and youth. The themes in these three stories, which are parts of an unfinished novel, are like forerunners of the great works that Dostoyevsky will produce in the following years. "Netochka Nezvanova is a laboratory where the ideology and techniques in Dostoyevsky's great novels are developed."
