Magi Kings
.A brand new star shining in the sky, the star of Jesus, and to follow this star to Jerusalem to worship the Baby Jesus. e, and from there to Bethlehem, the three Magi Kings: A Christian legend. Michel Tournier, with his powerful imagination, turned this event, which is only briefly mentioned in the Bible according to Matthew, into an interesting novel based on half-truth/half-legend. Each of the author's wise kings has a different resentment and pain. King Gaspar of Meroe, who hated his blackness with his hopeless love for his blonde Phoenician slave Biltin; Baltazar, the wisest King of Nippur, whose passion for statues and painting was cursed by the priests; Prince Melkon of Palmyra, whose kingdom was taken from him by his despotic uncle. They are all on a quest; They seek answers to some questions. Gaspar tries to find happiness by questioning true love and black-white culture; Nippur seeks the restoration of similarity with the image, the forgiveness of the form, starting from the Bible's saying "And God created man in his own image"; Melkon hopes to establish a new kingdom, different from the one he left behind, and to escape the bitterness of his loss. They come to the presence of the "child murderer", bloodthirsty king Herod the Great in Jerusalem, and each of them finds a piece of himself in his views and confessions about power and humanity: About art, love, politics... And he devoted his whole life to cakes and sweets, The fourth wise Mangalore Prince Taor, who sets out in pursuit of the Divine Confectioner and experiences various adventures in order to find the secret of latilokum.
The Magi Kings, which appear in only a few lines of the Bible, deeply influenced the art of painting in the West, and many paintings and mosaics named The Adoration of the Magi were made. In addition to the paintings of famous painters such as Leonardo da Vinci, Botticelli, Rubens, Gentile da Fabriano, there is also a mosaic called The Adoration of the Magi in the Chora Museum.
The same subject comes to life again in Michel Tournier's pen. And it encourages the reader to think again about love, art, culture and humanity.
