Muhteşem Süleyman
The reign of Suleiman the Magnificent is one of the best documented periods of the Ottoman Empire. Following the Battle of Mohács in 1526, documents related to the Ottoman Empire increased rapidly in European archives, especially in the Mediterranean region, which was exposed to the Ottoman threat. In the 16th and 17th centuries, there was a craze for collecting news about the Turks. “Run away, the Turks are coming!” It describes the spirit of the period in a humorous way. Intelligence documents, ambassador reports, booklets printed and distributed by the church and used for counter-propaganda, chronicles, written or oral news given by spies and merchants; Victory books, which present the war power of the Ottoman Empire in fine detail, provide great information about the period of "Solomon the Magnificent", as Westerners call it.
When these documents are brought together with official Ottoman sources, the pieces of the puzzle are completed and the whole picture emerges. That's what this book does. It tells the story of Suleiman the Magnificent from both sides, with the contributions of thirteen important local and foreign names.
