According to Bénéton, conservatism is an intellectual and political movement that emerged after the French Revolution. It is an ideology that is counter-revolutionary in nature because it emerged in modern times against modernity. For this reason, conservatives radically reject all practices and principles of the revolution because they find them contrary to human social morality and nature. Based on this, they are against enlightenment, human rights, and more generally, the modern political project.
